The region around Lisbon has 20 golf courses to offer. Whether you prefer Golf & City, a first-class golf resort on the Atlantic Ocean or the tranquility of the Costa Azul - with 300 days of sunshine a year, Lisbon offers ideal conditions for a varied golf vacation almost all year round.

Just outside Lisbon, between the seaside resorts of Estoril and Cascais, seven courses await golfers from all over the world, including the championship courses Penha Longa, Oitavos Dunes or Estoril Golf.

North of Lisbon, near the medieval town of Obidos, a new golf mecca has established itself next to the magnificent resort of Praia d'el Rey with the Royal Óbidos, Bom Sucesso and West Cliffs courses, which offer first-class courses as well as magnificent natural surroundings.

Other courses can be found on the Costa Azul, the "Blue Coast," south of the Tagus River, an area especially appreciated by nature lovers. The Troia Golf Course, in particular, exceeds all expectations. The area is an insider's tip for beautiful golf resorts, wide secluded beaches and reasonable prices.

Oitavos Dunes Cascais

Directly on the Atlantic coast and only 20 minutes from Lisbon, the golf course Oitavos Dunes, designed by Arthur Hills, was opened in 2001.

Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the course is played between pine forests, dunes and along the sea. The magnificent views of the ocean and the Sintra Mountains fully compensate for any strong winds on Portugal's west coast.

Estoril Golf Course, Estoril

The Estoril Golf Club in the luxurious seaside resort near Lisbon was opened as early as 1936. It is one of the oldest and most famous golf courses in Portugal, and several major golf tournaments, with famous players, have taken place here. The hilly championship course offers pine and eucalyptus trees as well as numerous water hazards.

Praia D'el Rey Golf Course, Obidos

Praia d'el Rey is considered the best course on the west coast and offers one of the most beautiful golf course layouts in Europe: one part is in the middle of a pine forest, the second is in an exciting dune landscape, with unforgettable views of the North Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands.

The course on the seaside, designed by Cabell B. Robinson as a typical links course, runs for the most part directly along the Atlantic coastline. The medieval town of Obidos is nearby, and it takes about 45 minutes to drive there from Lisbon.

Penha Longa, Sintra

Penha Longa welcomes players to one of the best golf courses in Europe. Built in 1992 by Robert Trent Jones Jr, the course is located in the middle of a nature reserve between Sintra and Cascais and is about 30 minutes from Lisbon.

Penha Longa is unanimously considered to be one of the best courses in Portugal by professional golfers. The Portugal Open has been held here several times.

Tróia Golf Resort

One of Portugal's most fascinating and challenging courses is located on the Troia Peninsula, right on the Costa Azul. Robert Trent Jones Sr. has created a true masterpiece here, perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape.

Troia is considered the most difficult course in Portugal and holds numerous challenges. On the links course, the fairways are narrow, the greens small and protected by numerous bunkers. The largest bunker in Portugal is located here, catching those who stray from the right path, finding sand is the main obstacle of the course. However, the wild beauty of the area, the sparkling sea and the white sand generously compensate for what may be a mediocre score.

West Cliffs, Obidos

West Cliffs is a true links course in a magnificent natural setting on the Atlantic coast near Obidos. Managed by Praia d'el Rey, the course opened in 2017. The Dye Design Group is responsible for the layout. The player needs to overcome wind from the Atlantic and several lakes on this championship course.

Belas Golf Club

Just 20 minutes from Lisbon, located among the mountains of Serra da Carragueira and offering gorgeous views of the mountainous landscape, you can play at Belas Golf Club. The first nine holes of the championship course pass by untouched nature and hundreds of beautiful pine trees.

Aroeira I & II, Caparica

Only 20 minutes from Lisbon, near the Costa da Caparica, these two golf courses are located in a protected landscape area. Aroeira I was designed by Frank Pennink in 1973 and runs through extensive pine forests. Aroeira II followed in 2000 and was designed by Donald Steel. Fairway bunkers and several lakes make the game challenging.

Ribagolfe I & II, Samora Correia

The two courses of Ribagolfe are located in a cork oak forest, about 30 minutes from Lisbon.

Ribagolfe I is considered more varied and challenging. Some well-placed water hazards have to be overcome. Small valleys and lakes make golfing here a pleasure.

Ribagolfe II has more of a classic park layout with straight fairways. The numerous cork oaks also come into play in several places.
