Los Cabos, Mexico: A paradise for golfers and nature lovers - cacti as tall as houses on land and whales in the water - an unforgettable picture!

We have inspected it for you!

The Mexican peninsula of Baja California, a peninsula over 1,200 kilometres long, is still little known in Europe. Los Cabos awaits you at the southernmost tip of Baja California - a destination that combines nature, luxury and golf to perfection. Golftravel.world has visited the new golf destination and extensively tested several courses. The impressions confirm it: Los Cabos is a must for anyone looking for first-class golf courses, breathtaking nature and a wide range of activities.

A triad of ocean, desert and mountains

Los Cabos offers a spectacular backdrop of golden deserts, the green peaks of the Sierra de la Laguna and the turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez. This interplay of landscapes serves as the perfect stage for first-class golf courses and unforgettable nature experiences.

    Cities

Los Cabos consists mainly of two towns, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, which are connected by a 32 km road. Along this coastal road you will find numerous world-class resorts and championship golf courses.

Cabo San Lucas is known for its vitality, excellent gastronomy and vibrant nightlife and offers a variety of attractions. Excursions to whale watching and the world-famous landmark of the region ‘El Arco’ depart from the marina in the centre of town!

The attractions in San José del Cabo are just as interesting as those in the livelier Cabo San Lucas. The old Jesuit mission was founded at the time of the Spanish colonisation of the peninsula in the 1730s. In this picturesque little town, you will find the authenticity of this region. A stroll through the town with a visit to the numerous galleries should not be missed on any trip. The visit is crowned by a meal in one of the good restaurants.

Places such as Todo Santos, El Triunfo, Cabo Pulmo, Sol de Mayo or Miraflores can be reached as day trips and round off a varied programme. The northernmost point of Baja California is La Paz, just a two-hour drive from San José del Cabo.

    World-class golf

The region is a paradise for golf lovers, with 18 first-class golf courses designed by the best in the business. Golf legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, Tom Fazio, Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones Jr. have created masterpieces here. Highlights include:

    • Puerto Los Cabos GC

Puerto Los Cabos, on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, offers an impressive 27-hole course: an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus and a 9-hole course designed by Greg Norman. Nicklaus added more holes to the original design in 2018, characterised by subtle greens, large bunkers and elevation changes. The Norman Course impresses with a par-36 layout and bunkers inspired by Melbourne's Sandbelt. Two palapas on the course offer complimentary snacks and refreshments.

    • Solmar Golf Links

Since its debut in 2020, the oceanfront Solmar Golf Links in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, has quickly become one of the most sought-after golf courses in the region. Designed by the legendary Greg Norman, the course offers an exciting journey through the landscape with breathtaking panoramas of the Pacific Ocean, complemented by desert accents and a variety of playing options. The breathtaking landscape includes dunes, sandy terrain, refreshing ocean breezes and fairways that are seamlessly integrated into the natural vegetation.

    • Diamante Dunes Course – Davis love III - Hotel Nobu & Hard Rock

The Dunes Course, designed by Davis Love III and nestled in the white sand hills above the Pacific Ocean, is considered Mexico's No. 1 according to Golf Digest. The windy links course leads past 50-foot-high dunes and blowout bunkers. A highlight is the par-5 18th hole with several landing zones and an elevated, bowl-shaped green. Nobu and Hard Rock Hotel guests enjoy exclusive access, subject to availability.

    • Palmilla Golf Course

Nestled in a ravine, framed by the Sierra de la Laguna, Palmilla laid the foundation for top golf in Los Cabos in 1992. The 27-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus includes the original 18 holes (Arroyo and Mountain) with rocky ravines, waste bunkers and ponds, as well as the Ocean Nine from 1997, which takes players from the mountains to the sea. Wide fairways and accessible greens make the course attractive even for less experienced golfers. Located close to the luxury resort One&Only Palmilla, the course is to be privatised in future and will be exclusively accessible to resort guests.

    • Cabo Real Golf Course

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, Cabo Real Golf Club offers wide, undulating fairways and challenging greens that lead up to 500 feet above sea level into the mountains. Strategically placed bunkers require precise play. As host of the PGA Senior Slam events (1996, 1999), the course combines challenging uphill holes with wind-assisted play and downhill holes against the breeze.

      Gastronomy

Los Cabos is a culinary paradise that will delight you with a unique journey through the rich diversity of Mexican cuisine. Savour farm-to-table experiences, sustainably caught seafood from the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific and innovative restaurants that combine tradition and modernity.

Particularly noteworthy is the Michelin-starred Cocina de Autor at the Grand Velas Los Cabos, run by top chefs Francisco Sixto and Sydney Schutt - the restaurant is included in the hotel's all-inclusive package! Be inspired by exquisite creations, stylish ambience and breathtaking sea views - a true feast for the senses!

The chef of the Acre, an impressive 25-hectare oasis, reinterprets Mexican cuisine with creative tasting menus that emphasise local ingredients in an original way. At Nicksan, Ángel Carbajal has been fusing Japanese traditions with Mexican flavours for almost three decades, offering an award-winning ‘Beyond Sushi’ experience that features seasonal and sustainable menus.

While these restaurants make Los Cabos a gourmet hotspot, the true essence of regional cuisine is reflected in the taquerías, family-run eateries and lively markets - places where the authentic flavours of Mexico come alive.

      • Sea animals and adventures

In addition to playing golf, you can enjoy the incredible nature on offer. From December to April, humpback whales, grey whales and blue whales migrate through the Sea of Cortez, where they raise their young. Watching these majestic animals is a highlight and a unique experience. The reefs and coastal regions also invite you to get up close to turtles, parrotfish and other marine animals.

      • Year-round destination

With a warm climate all year round, rarely below 20°C, Los Cabos is ideal for golf, water sports and outdoor activities. Summer can be hot and humid, but the winter months offer more pleasant temperatures for relaxing rounds on the green. The least rain falls in March, while September is the rainiest time.

      • Arrival

From 3 November, Condor will be offering a non-stop flight from Frankfurt to Los Cabos/San José del Cabo twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays.

      Conclusion

Los Cabos is not only a dream destination for golfers, but also a place where gourmets, nature lovers and adventurers get their money's worth. Whether you want to tee off on a championship course, indulge in the award-winning gourmet restaurants afterwards, watch whales and sail off into the sunset or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the desert - Los Cabos has something for everyone.
