Travel report: a Golf trip to Sri Lanka!

Our trip to Sri Lanka was simply fantastic! We were very impressed by the country, the people and the cuisine. User guide and chauffeur was excellent in every way. He stopped when we wanted, knew the money changers with the best exchange rates and arranged everything we wanted - including an arrack tasting :-). He always remained calm and humorous in the busy traffic on Sri Lanka's roads. It was very pleasant to have him with us for the whole trip.

Excursions and culture

All the excursions were very impressive - even if 1202 steps to the Sigiriya rock are not without their challenges - we can't say which one was the most beautiful. Perhaps the Horton Plains, where we set off at 6 a.m., which turned out to be very far-sighted, as we had the trail to ourselves for miles. The train ride was also very comfortable and the view was a dream. Of all the places, Kandy impressed us the most, the location on the lake reminded us a little of northern Italian towns.

Golfing in Sri Lanka

The Victoria Golf Club was a hit! Perfectly maintained and managed, from the course to the clubhouse facilities, everything was top notch. The caddies were single handicappers and were able to give us lots of tips. The Royal Colombo Golf Club was also very nice, a great course, very well maintained, with nice caddies (again single HCP), a beautiful clubhouse and very friendly staff - definitely a course you want to play more often.

Hotels and food

The hotels were all very nice, we liked the Golden Crown in Kandy best because the bars and restaurant there were really great. In the other hotels, the restaurants were sometimes not really cozy, but one thing was always really good: the food! We have become total fans of the local cuisine. The Heritance Kandalama and the Golden Crown had the best selection, as did of course the Mövenpick in Colombo. We were pleasantly surprised that we had half board everywhere, apparently this is also very common in Sri Lanka - and also very good.

Conclusion and outlook

Sri Lanka enchanted us so much that we are already planning our next trip.
